Abstract
This paper reports the results of a field survey conducted in Ogun State of Nigeria in 1999/2000. Primary data was sourced from 61 urban low income households in Abeokuta South LGA and 60 rural households in Abeokuta North LGA,
through questionnaire, using stratified, systematic random sampling techniques. A 48 hours recall method was used to collect data on daily food intake, food type and quantity consumed by individual members in the households. The study concludes that though food insecurity incidence is high among urban low income and rural households, with the situation being worse among the urban household. The study thus, recommends that farming (taking a form of peri-urban farming) among households especially the low-income urban households amongst other things should be encouraged and promoted consumption”.
