The former Director, FUNAAB Bureau of Transportation (FUNAABOT), Dr. Oluwafiropo Awokola, has completed his tenure of office by handing-over the baton of leadership to his deputy, Mr. Oludotun Sodiya.

In his handover speech, Dr. Awokola, who assumed office on September 30, 2011 as the Deputy Dean, Student Affairs and Chairman, Management Committee on Transportation (MANCOT now FUNAABOT), recalled that his appointment was on the recommendation of the then Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Samuel Oluwalana and that the number of functional buses had increased from 29 to 33.

The out-gone Director listed his major achievements to include the construction of drainage pipes to prevent flooding and speed-breakers at the Camp Area bus-stop, purchase of a 4,000-litre tank at the FUNAABOT Tarmac to aid easy washing of cars and the adoption of in-house servicing of buses to save funds for the University. He commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, for providing an enabling environment for the Directorate to thrive, as he also appreciated members of the University community, most especially, the FUNAABOT board members, drivers and ticket sellers for their efforts, dedication, sacrifice, sincerity and co-operation given to him throughout his tenure.

Responding, Mr. Sodiya, who has been a member of MANCOT since 2009, appreciated University Management for the confidence reposed in him with his appointment as Acting Director, FUNAABOT, the first Non-teaching Staff to hold this position. He implored members of staff of FUNAABOT to see the assignment as their personal responsibility, by putting in their best at all times, adding that his appointment was not for him alone but for everyone in the Directorate.

Professor Oluwalana, a former Dean of Student Affairs, had described Dr. Awokola as man, who is free from scandals, charging the new Acting Director to be a good decision-maker and team-player. Similarly, members of staff of the Directorate showered encomiums on the out-gone Director, describing him as a man of the people, a man of wisdom, a father that can be relied upon, an articulate man, humble and a God-fearing man. They implored the Acting Director to imbibe the sterling qualities of his predecessor in order to take FUNAABOT to greater heights.
