The Coordinator of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Staff Football Team (FSFT), Mr. Victor Opakunle, has highlighted the importance of regular participation in sports as a pathway to promoting physical well-being and maintaining a healthy lifestyle amidst the demanding schedules of staff members.
Mr. Opakunle shared these insights during the FSFT’s End-of-Year Thanksgiving Party held on December 19, 2024, at the University’s Mini Football Pitch.
According to him, beyond the physical benefits, participation in the Team’s activities fosters mental rejuvenation, stress relief, and a sense of belonging, all of which were essential for productivity and workplace harmony. He said that FSFT exemplifies the spirit of excellence and sportsmanship for which FUNAAB is known, both within the University and in external engagements.
“The Team was established to unify all staff members, regardless of their unions, and to nurture healthy relationships both on and off the pitch. It also serves as a platform to celebrate milestones, strengthen bonds, and create cherished memories that enhance the overall FUNAAB experience,” Mr. Opakunle added.
In their respective remarks, the Team’s Coach, Mr. Gabriel Odili; Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), FUNAAB Branch, Mr. Olurotimi Fasunwon; Deputy Dean of the College of Entrepreneurial and Development Studies (COLENDS), Prof. Sakiru Akinbode, and Prof. Olusegun Oduwaye encouraged staff members to prioritise exercise despite their busy schedules and avoid prolonged periods of inactivity.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr. Jamiu Sofoluwe, expressed gratitude to all Team members for their unwavering support, commitment, and dedication. He also prayed for more years of unity and celebration.
