FST Holds 2nd Induction, Urges Dedication from Inductees

The Department of Food Science and Technology (FST), College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC), has inducted its Class of 2024 Graduates into the membership of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST).

Congratulating the inductees, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who was represented by the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Christian Ikeobi, assured the inductees and the Department of the Management’s readiness to support its graduates to be high-flying among their equals.

The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the students for their resilience over the years as he congratulated their parents that their wards were now cutting-edge Graduates who would add to the manpower that would drive the economy.

The Vice-Chancellor equally thanked COLFHEC, the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST), as well as all the staff members who have contributed to moulding the inductees.

On her part, the Dean, COLFHEC, Prof. Adebukunola Omemu, noted that NIFST has been at the forefront of building a rounded Food Scientist. She said that the role of Food Scientists has been more critical as their future lies in groundbreaking research.

Prof. Omemu tasked the inductees to engage in workshops and conferences to broaden their knowledge.

Earlier, the Ag. Head, FST, Dr. Olatundun Kajihausa welcomed everyone to the induction and gave a brief history of how the Department has evolved the induction from Inception.

She revealed that a total of 76 graduates from the last session were presented, adding that the induction into NIFST would afford the inductees to network with stakeholders in the professional field.

Also, the National President, NIFST, Dr. Bola Osinowo, represented by Mr. Rasaq Oke and the Chairperson, NIFST, Western Chapter, Prof. Bolanle Akinwande, represented by Dr. Abosede Oduntan from the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), tasked all inductees to serve the institute with dedication and represent FUNAAB well wherever they go.

The highpoint of the event was the presentation of certificates to the newly inducted members.
