The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with its Alumni Association, is exploring the possibility of establishing a multi-million Naira Farm Resort on campus. The proposed initiative was being conceived to boost edu-tourism, enhance nature activities, increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and encourage subsistence farming practices among visitors.
Speaking today, April 30, 2025, at the La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort Conference Room, and on the topic “Enhancing Service Delivery and Revenue Generation through FUNAAB’s Strategic Position and Agricultural Edge,” Mr. Kuro Ngoboh, Lead Consultant of Purple Plethora Concepts Limited, emphasised FUNAAB’s untapped potential as a national engine of agricultural innovation and economic growth. He noted that the University’s unique location and specialisation placed it in a prime position to lead transformative initiatives in the agricultural and tourism sectors.
Mr. Ngoboh, a former GTBank Southwest Zonal Head, highlighted the University’s proximity to Lagos, the economic hub of West Africa, as a strategic advantage that should be leveraged to drive development and visibility.
In his submission, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Retreat. He described the presentations and ideas shared, particularly by the Resource Persons, as iconic and capable of delivering long-term value to the University.
Also speaking, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, underscored the need for a mindset shift across the University Community to enhance productivity. He disclosed that the current 5-year Strategic Plan would lapse in December 2025, adding that a new committee would soon be inaugurated to develop the next strategic roadmap. Prof. Kehinde commended the Governing Council for its commitment to visionary policy-making geared towards institutional advancement.
The Retreat was well-attended with the active participation of internal and external Council members, alongside officials from the Council Affairs Unit.
