An alumnus of the University and a gallant officer of the United States Navy, Lt. Victor Agunbiade has been decorated with the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal by the US Navy for his meritorious service at Djibouti, a northeast country situated at the Horn of Africa. According to a Gold Star Certificate issued by the US Department of Navy and signed by the Commanding Officer, Camp Lemmonier, Capt. Kenneth Crowe, Lt. Agunbiade was rewarded for his meritorious service as a Disbursing Officer, Comptroller Department, Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti from October 2019 to July 2020.
Capt. Crowe noted that the medal was in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and overseas contingency operations, adding that while demonstrating superior leadership, Lt. Agunbiade managed the US Navy’s largest cash disbursing office with US $45 million (Over N17 billion) in cash transactions, accounting for approximately 70 per cent of the Navy’s overseas disbursing volume. Capt. Crowe further stated that Lt. Agunbiade maintained 100 percent accountability of US $23 million (Over N8 billion) across six rigorous inspections and independent audits with zero discrepancies.
According to him, Lt. Agunbiade’s unswerving determination, wise judgment and complete dedication to duty reflected great credit upon him and upheld the highest traditions of the US Navy. Lt. Agunbiade graduated from FUNAAB in 1997 and holds Bachelor of Agriculture Degree from the Department of Agricultural Economics, College of Agricultural Management, Rural Development and Consumer Studies (COLAMRUCS), now College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), of the University, and was Sports Secretary of the students’ union during the 1992/1993 academic session in the University. Lt. Agunbiade is also a recipient of the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, FY17 ACGEN National Recruiter of the Year, and Region East Diversity Recruiter of the FY17, among others.
