FUNAAB Athletes Shine with Four Gold Medals

Athletes from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), have achieved remarkable success by clinching four gold medals at the Talent Hunt Relay event sponsored by the Tobi/Abiola Grassroot Sports Development Foundation. The event took place at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state.

The primary objective of the Talent Hunt, as stated by its sponsors, was to unearth promising athletes from various tertiary institutions in Ogun state to be part of the nation’s team of sprinters.

Giving a brief on the achievement, Dr. Samuel Olabanji, the Director, Directorate of Sports, ascribed the feat to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde for his unwavering support, highlighting the timely upgrade of facilities at the Sports Complex as a catalyst.

Dr. Olabanji added that the ongoing construction of a new Basketball Pitch, and renovations of Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, and Handball Courts are improvements expected to pave the way for more impressive sporting achievements at FUNAAB.

The group of Relay Runners who secured the four Gold Medals consisted of 14 athletes, comprising eight males and six females, under the guidance of Coach Lekan Adebote.

In the male category, the winning runners are Chukwudumebi Obi, Home Science Management (HSM); Samuel Adebayo, Animal Production and Health (APH); Oluwaseun Oyeyiga, Agric. Economics & Rural Development (AERD) and Peter Badejo, Animal Physiology (ANP).

Others in this category are Omotolani Onifade, Agric. Economics & Rural Development (AERD); Eric Chukwuanieze, Plant Physiology & Crop Production (PPCP); Oladipupo Olatunde, Animal Production & Health (APH), and Joseph Ilesanmi Agricultural Administration (AGAD).

The female category included talented runners such as Grace Aduwo, Animal Physiology (ANP); Mercy Akaiso Chemistry (CHM), Olamide Balogun, Animal Physiology (ANP); Toritseju Odeka, Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTM); Temitope Babajide, Agric. Economics & Farm Management (AEFM) and Victoria Aransiola, Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTM).
