The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has achieved another milestone at the recently concluded TETFund Alliance for Innovative Research (TETFAIR) in Abuja.
TETFAIR, organised annually by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) as part of its collaboration with the Innov8 Hub , serves as a platform for researchers and Innovators from various beneficiary institutions to transform their ideas into viable solutions and innovations for commercialisation.
Prof. Oluwasefunmi Arogundade from the Computer Science Department, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), while presenting their reports to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde in his office, revealed that out of over 3,000 submissions, only 16 teams were selected, and proudly, both teams submitted by the University were among the chosen 16.
Prof. Arogundade explained that the programme spanned 12 months and involved various activities such as Intensive Boot Camps, Hybrid Training, and Mentorship Sessions focused on Venture Creation, Protocol Training, and Market Validation.
Team 1 from FUNAAB, comprising Prof. Ayotunde Adebambo of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics (ABG), College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM), and Prof. Ayorinde Olanipekun of the Department of Electrical/Electronics Engineering (COLENG), presented the ANiMeDRig project.
ANiMeDRig is a non-invasive, automated poultry measurement, data collection, and analysis system designed to improve revenue, efficiency, and the quality of poultry yield.
Besides, Team 2 from FUNAAB, with members including Prof. Oluwasefunmi Arogundade of the Department of Computer Science (COLPHYS), Prof. Olubukola Isah of the Department of Animal Nutrition (ANN) COLANIM, and Dr. Adebayo Abayomi-Alli, also of the Department of Computer Science, COLPHYS, showcased the Nimtrack project.
Nimtrack has developed a wireless network-based system for tracking and monitoring the location and movement of small and large animals.
Addressing both Teams, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, expressed his appreciation to the Team members for bringing pride to the University through their exceptional efforts.
He assured all staff that they could proudly identify themselves as members of the FUNAAB community due to the remarkable achievements of these Teams at TETFAIR.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed his hope that the Teams would advance to the next stage, which is the incubation stage, and suggested that TETFund consider establishing an Innovation Centre at FUNAAB.
