The Professor Kolawole Salako – Led Administration’s massive investment in mechanized farming has paid off as the University has recorded a bumper harvest of Maize and other farm produce under the Community Based Farming Scheme (COBFAS).
The silent revolution which started under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako attracted hundreds of local traders in Abeokuta and Odeda environ to the University to purchase agricultural produce at wholesale price.
Professor Salako again delivered on his conviction which he made while fielding questions at a Press Conference marking the 26th Convocation Ceremony of the University, during which he stated that FUNAAB could feed the nation if provided with the wherewithal.
According to him, “we have started by feeding our immediate community, the Odeda community, we can upscale if we have all the support and feed Ogun State, we can upscale when we have the support and feed the nation”.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the cultivation of over 30 hectares of maize and other agricultural products through mechanized farming is in line with the tripodal mandate of the University which are teaching, research and extension services also known as community development.
According to him, “Community development or extension is about production and telling people to produce very well. We may not upscale to the point of being Nestle or United Africa Company (UAC) but we should be able to show people that we can really practicalise agriculture and that is exact.
