The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has charged students newly admitted in the Part-Time Degree Programme of the University to take their academics seriously as there is no room for short cuts in the University.
Professor Salako who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Academic), Professor Morenike Dipeolu gave this advice during the 2018/2019 Academic Session Orientation programme organized to familiarize the newly admitted students with the rules and regulations of the University.
According to him, the University considers the part-time programme to be as important as the full time programme and as such expects the same commitment and seriousness required for academic excellence.
The Vice-Chancellor assure the students that the University has the experts in their various fields to impart knowledge, adding that at the end of their programme, they will be proud alumni of the University.
He disclosed that the University has zero tolerance for examination misconduct and malpractice, stressing that any student caught will be made to face the Student Disciplinary Committee.
In her presentation, the University Librarian, Dr. Fehintola Onifade who was represented by Dr. Nancy Okorie encouraged the newly admitted students to make use of the library for their researches, assignments and reading.
She disclosed that the Library opens week days from 8.00 am to 8.00pm and on Saturdays from 10.00am to 6.00pm.
The Deputy Director, Exams and Records, Mr. Sunday Ijaodola explained the roles and functions of the Unit which he said serves as the link between students and the University Management in matters relating to registration and examinations.
He highlighted the functions of the unit to include update and upkeep of students’ bio-data, registration of students in the University, verification of Ordinary Level results of newly admitted students, Issuance of Academic Transcripts, Issuance of Statement of Results amongst others.
The representative of the Director, Information and Communication Technology Research Centre (ICTREC), Mrs. Tawakalitu Ayelotan explained the step-to-step procedure needed to be undertaken by the students to ensure that they are properly registered as bonafide students of the University.
Speaking on ways to stay healthy, the representative of the Director, Health Services, Dr. Oludayo Oduwole charged the students to eat right, exercise and ensure that they keep their surroundings clean and devoid of any hazard that could pose a health challenge they may encounter.
The Chairman, Time Table and Examination Committee, Dr. Zaccheaus Ojekunle reiterated the University’s position of zero tolerance to examination malpractice and urged the students to inform him on time should they observe a clash in their examination timetable.
Presenting a brief from the Counseling Unit, the Principal Assistant Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Comfort Ofodile who was represented by Mrs. Olufunke Adegbite highlighted the rules and regulations to be observed by students, adding that the Unit is always open to counsel students on any issue or challenge that they may encounter.
The representative of the State Coordinator, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mr Wale Afolabi also educated the new students on the procedure for registration and regularization for part-time programme.
The Coordinator Part-Time Programme, Dr. Segun Oladoye attended to all their questions.
