FUNAAB Hosts Two-Day Capacity Building Workshop for Academic Staff

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) recently organised a Two-Day Capacity Building Workshop aimed at enhancing the skills of its academic staff, ranging from Graduate Assistants to Senior Lecturers.

The initiative aligned with the current administration’s commitment to continuous staff development.

During the Opening Ceremony, Dr. Oluwagbemiga Adeleye, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU-UNAAB Branch, expressed his delight in witnessing the Workshop.

He emphasised the importance of continuous training for academic staff, particularly for newcomers replacing those who have left.

Dr. Adeleye highlighted that such training fosters strong comradeship and introduces essential academic principles.

The Chairman of ASUU-UNAAB Branch also called for unity among the academic staff, stressing the importance of understanding the traditions and culture of academia.

He extended his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde for approving and supporting the Workshop.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his appreciation to all the participants, commending the contributions of the University’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nimbe Adedipe, and other past Vice-Chancellors.

According to him, the founding fathers of the University gave their best, and their efforts form the foundation that everyone at FUNAAB enjoys today.

He reminded them that they are the future leaders of the University, encouraging them to aim for comprehensive personal and professional development rather than hastening the journey to becoming professors.

Prof. Kehinde appreciated the Guest Speakers, Prof. Steve Afolami and Prof. Christian Ikeobi. Prof. Afolami, whom he described as a mentor and significant contributor to FUNAAB, delivered a lecture on “Academic Freedom and its Limitations,” while Prof. Ikeobi discussed the “Culture of Teaching, Examination, and Results Preparation.”

The Workshop took place on Tuesday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the Red and Green Chambers, simultaneously.
