The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has officially launched a Conflict Resolution and Policy Advisory Committee to steer the University in the right direction.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde emphasised the Committee’s necessity during its inauguration, asserting that it would play a crucial role in restoring the University’s values.
Prof. Kehinde outlined the Committee’s terms of reference to include, mediating on issues of conflict among staff members of the University and proffer solutions as appropriate.
To advise on policies, principles, and procedures that promote peaceful coexistence among University staff and, to make any other recommendations in line with the earlier listed terms of reference to the University Management.
Prof. Kehinde, a Fellow of the Institute of Health and Safety highlighted the Committee’s role as an intermediary between the University Management and its staff. He expressed confidence that the Committee would formulate effective policies and mediate in matters that could ordinarily escalate if not well managed.
Speaking on behalf of the Committee’s Chairman, Prof. Isaac Aiyelaagbe who was unavoidably absent during the inauguration, Prof. Adewale Dipeolu, a former Dean, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), assured that the Committee would diligently fulfill its duties, stressing the importance of a peaceful environment for the University’s success.
Other members of the committee who spoke, noted that the Committee is long overdue, assuring that the Committee would serve as a vital link between the University Management and staff.
The Committee consists of Prof. Isaac Aiyelaagbe, Department of Horticulture, College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), as Chairman; while members are, Prof. Helen Bodunde, Department of Communication and General Studies (CGNS), COLAMRUD, and Prof. Adewale Dipeolu, Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD).
Others are, Prof. Adebayo Akinloye, Department of Veterinary Anatomy, College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET); Mr. Olufisayo Amubode, the immediate past Director, Directorate of Internal Audit and Mr. Taofeeq Kazeem, Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR), Council Affairs, serving as the Committee’s Secretary.
The committee is expected to submit a periodic report to the Vice-Chancellor.
