FUNAAB Library Organises Training for Final Year Students

In order to enable final year students have a seamless Content and Literature search during their project work, the ‘Nimbe Adedipe Library of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has organized a University-wide Training Workshop titled “Information/Digital Literacy and Information Sourcing: A Sine-Qua-non for Quality Research” for the final year students of the University.

Speaking at the maiden Training Workshop, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor (Mrs.) Morenike Dipeolu commended the University Librarian and her team for the new innovative workshop organized for the final year students.

According to her, “It is particularly heart-warming, that Library and Librarians could think about this for our students, especially when it comes to sourcing literature for your research”.

The Vice-Chancellor, charged the students to make good use of the Training Workshop for the benefit of their Literature Research.

She stated that the training will be useful to the students in their future pursuits, charging them to imbibe the entire Lecture and make use of it.

Corroborating the Vice-Chancellor, the University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Fehintola Onifade admonished the students to make use of the library for their research and to gather necessary information from the library during their project work.

She called on the students that library could be used as their leisure place, especially when they are less busy to read other literature books that are not related to their courses in order to widen their knowledge.

The University Librarian restated that the Training Workshop would be a source of information for their research topic(s), while she encouraged the students to feel free to ask questions from staff of the Library based on their concern.

“We thought it is going to be useful for you as final year students.  You will soon be taking your research topics and some other things.  So this training is specially designed to empower you, to enrich your skill, to make you better students and to enable you achieve your academic pursuits”, she said.

Dr. Onifade also notified the students that library is open twenty four hours during the examination period, and that the students should be expecting another innovative service from the University Library called “Learning common”, where students can go to the Library as a group to brain storm. Training/lectures were delivered on Introduction to Library’s Electronic Information Resources, Workshop and Hands-on Practice on Research4Life Database (HINARI and Pubmed), TEEAL Database (Hands-on-Practice), Using the MS-Word Office to build a Table of Content, Using MS-Word for Generating Citations and References and Using the Mendeley Reference Management Software for Research.

Others were, Brief Introduction to the Library’s Electronic Information Resources and Workshop and Hands-on Practice on Research4Life (AGORA) and TEEAL Database.
