The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta has matriculated a total of 4,013 students for the 2018/2019 Academic Session. Delivering his Address at the Matriculation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako informed that the matriculation of 2018/2019 was the second he would be presiding over as the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Professor Salako reminded the students that Matriculation ceremony is an event that affirms that students have been admitted into the university. According to him, “Matriculation Ceremony is not just a ceremony: It is an Oath-Taking exercise to affirm that you have been admitted. Anyone who does not sign the matriculation register is not our student”, he reiterated.
Advising the students, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged them to feel free to consult those in relevant positions in case they have any issues bothering them. They can confide in their Departmental Heads, Deans or better still go to the Student Affairs Unit.
In the analysis given by the Vice-Chancellor, the matriculating students cut across nine Colleges in the University. They are the College of Physical Sciences (CLOPHYS), which had the highest this year with a total number of 703; College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM) admitted 644 students, College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT) admitted 565 students, while the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS) admitted 532. College of Environmental Resources and Management (COLERM) got 471 students; College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC) admitted 436 students, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD) admitted 364 students. College of Engineering (COLENG) admitted 254 students, while the College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET) admitted 44 students.
He advised the freshers to desist from indecent dressing and any social vice that can affect their academic careers. Furthermore, he charged the students not to be absent from class as it is mandatory for students to have 70% of class attendance to qualify for any examination.
“Permit me to emphasize this recurrent violation for parents to note; non registration of a student in a session leads to “withdrawal from university”, he warned.
