The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in partnership with NOLAP Farms, has been preparing for a massive maize harvest by the end of August.
The 9-hectare maize farm which was part of a broader initiative, included the development of a state-of-the-art Cattle Ranch on the University campus, focusing on both beef and dairy farming.
Earlier in June 2024, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde had assisted in planting Brachiaria seeds (Grass) on a 4ha allocated land within the farm’s plot, including a successful harvest of over 1 hectare of tomatoes from the farm.
During an inspection visit to the farm recently, the visibly elated Vice-Chancellor stated that the upcoming maize harvest would mark another milestone in the collaboration, which aimed to serve as a research and education hub with a strong emphasis on sustainable practices and community engagement.
To support its operations, the farm, today, August 9, 2024, took delivery of advanced equipment, including an Irrigation Sprinkler, a 30 HP Diesel Pump Machine, a Lawn Mower, a Filing Machine, and a Corn Thresher, all of which are expected to enhance productivity and streamline farming activities.
