The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mate Africa and Partners (MAAP) to establish a 1,000-hectare Farm on campus.
The collaboration was aimed at boosting capacity development and food production through agricultural ventures, including crop and livestock farming.
As part of the partnership, modern agricultural mechanisation training facilities would be provided, creating a Technology and Food Hub designed to empower FUNAAB students for future endeavours.
The initiative would also forge and manage international linkages, enabling students to participate in global events and programmes that enhance learning and job creation within the agricultural value chain.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony on August 7, 2024, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, emphasised the University’s primary focus on its Tripodal Mandate of Teaching, Research, and Community Engagement.
Prof. Kehinde highlighted the University’s strengths in research, with lecturers and scientists actively securing grants and conducting impactful studies.
He also noted FUNAAB’s ongoing efforts in community engagement and the importance of partnering with organisations that share its vision.
He assured that FUNAAB was fully committed to the success of the farm project and would provide the necessary support to ensure its achievement.
