FUNAAB Staff football team with their counterpart from Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, locked horns in a friendly football match that ended in draw. The friendly football match was organized by the Directorate of Sports, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
The first half of the match was dominated by the visiting team with good passes, team cohesion and better game organization. They took the game from their host and pressurised with great accuracy and interchange of passes.
25th minutes of the first half, Babcock striker, Dimeji Ako lashed the ball and tucked it into the far angle of the post to give the Babcock team a deserved first goal.
On resumption of the second half, FUNAAB team came in stronger and took the dominance of the game from Babcock team. The introduction of Odedina Saheed of the environmental unit into the midfield of the FUNAAB team, stabilized the game for the host team.
Saheed combined beautifully with Quadril Jimoh at the penalty area of the visiting team through pass was given to Festus Dada also of the Environmental Unit, who was hacked down in the panelty box gave FUNAAB team deserved penalty.
Odedina Saheed, who un-arguably the most valuable player of the FUNAAB team scored the penalty to equalize for the host team. However, the game ended 1-1.
Earlier the Acting Director of Sports Centre, Dr. Samuel Olabanji in his Welcome Address hoped that friendly match between the two Universities would foster unity among the two, enjoining the teams to use the game to strengthen their relationship.
According to him, “I believe this staff friendly football match will continue. Very soon I hope we shall have return match. There should be fair play”.
Among those that graced the match were former Director of Sports Center, Mr. Bayo Oluwatoki, Coach Funke Apelehin, Coach Lawrence Odumbo. The stadium was full to the capacity.
