The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), is set to benefit from enhanced broadband Internet services following its inclusion in the ongoing Connectivity to Underserved Communities Initiative (CUCI) being implemented by the Federal Government through Galaxy Backbone.
The initiative, designed to promote broadband penetration in underserved communities across the country, aligns with the digital inclusion and connectivity objectives of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy aimed at fostering equality and inclusiveness in the nation’s digital economy.
According to a notification received by the University, the Management of Galaxy Backbone has approved FUNAAB’s participation in the current phase of the programme. The project would involve the extension of fibre last-mile connectivity to the University’s Data Centre, as well as the installation of a router to provide reliable broadband Internet services across the institution.
Meanwhile, to facilitate the successful deployment of the infrastructure, relevant staff members of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology Services (DICTS), with the Galaxy Backbone team, today, June 8, 2026, took staff members of the Directorate of Physical Planning (DPP) and the Directorate of Works & Services on site inspection tour on campus.
The development is expected to further strengthen digital infrastructure within the University, enhance access to Internet-enabled services, and support teaching, learning, research, and administrative operations.
