The flag of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) will be hoisted full mast internationally as highly talented students are set to participate at the 31st World Universities Games holding in Chengdu, China from July 28th to August 8th, 2023.
FUNAAB had shone like galaxy of stars at the 26th NUGA Games, held at University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Lagos from 16th to 27th March, 2022 where our contingent to the Sports Fiesta took eleventh position out of over one hundred (100) Universities in Nigeria, with 3 gold, 4 silver and 9 bronze medals.
The result qualified ten (10) of our sports men and women, who based on their impressive performance were invited to the World Universities Games trial, held at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City, Edo State from 8th to14th May, 2023.
Two (2) of FUNAAB athletes led their events in Athletics;
They are:

Akintoye will represent Nigeria at World Students Sports Olympic in 400m, 200m and 4 x 400m relay while Aransiola will participate in 200m, 4 x 100m, mixed relay.
This is the second time FUNAAB will be appearing at the World University Games, the first experience was at the 29th World University Games, held in Taipei, Taiwan from August 19th – 30th, 2017 where two students, namely Oyinloye Naomi Adedoyin Biology (Zoology option), a Badminton player and Adedotun Folashade (Chemistry) played Table tennis at the games.
Nigeria did not participate at the 30th World University held in Italy.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde- led Management has congratulated, approved and supported the attendance of the athletes at the World Games.
The Ag. Director of Sports, Dr. Samuel Olabanji appreciated the sports loving Vice-Chancellor, for sponsoring the attendance of FUNAAB at the 31st World University Games in Chengdu, China between July 28th – August 8th, 2013.
He added that, Prof. O. B. Kehinde has embarked upon total rehabilitation of all the sports facilities at the University Sports Centre.
