The United Kingdom Alumni branch of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has distributed foodstuffs to selected indigent students of the University to cushion their plights ahead of the impending first semester examination.
Food items distributed included, rice, gari, and other assorted provisions.
The food items were distributed to130 beneficiaries categorized as indigent students.
The Food Support Scheme of the Alumni branch was initiated in 2021 as a way of assisting students during examination period.
Delivering his welcome remarks, UK Branch Chairman, Mr. Dipo Oronti, represented by the National Vice President II, Mrs. Olukemi Fashina, appreciated the University Management for supporting the Alumni body anytime support is needed.
He lauded the support and cooperation of members of the UK Branch, noting that the food stuffs could last a student for two weeks if managed judiciously.
One of the beneficiaries, Miss Awotunde Abiola of the Department of Pasture and Range Management, College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM) appreciated the UK Alumni branch, and said the kind gesture would go a long way during the examination.
She further said the initiative is giving undergraduate Students insight to know how to support indigent students when they eventually graduate.
In his remarks, Mr. Taiwo David, Department of Mathematics, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), on behalf of other Beneficiaries, lauded the UK Branch Alumni for the food items given to them, saying hungry students may not be able to concentrate during examination, except for this intervention.
