The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), is among eight other universities that are beneficiaries of a grant totaling €799,138 (about N795million) from a Finland-based organization.
The project name is COPAFEU, an acronym for Co-Producing Knowledge on Sustainable Growth through Service-Learning Pedagogy between African and European Higher Education Institutions.
The beneficiary institutions are; Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa, University of the Free State, South Africa, Mettu University, Ethiopia, Haramaya University, Ethiopia University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Ruaha Catholic University, Tanzania, University of Peloponnese, Greece
The grant was won for FUNAAB by Professor B. S. Bada who coordinated other team members which include, Dr. (Mrs.) K. A. Olatunde, Dr. (Mrs.) O. T. Ojetokun and Dr. S. O. Oladeji.
The goal of COPAFEU is to enhance the capacity of the institutions to align the skills and knowledge of their graduates to ensure employ-ability and entrepreneurial skills to meet the needs of the local and global labour market, while actively contributing to and shaping sustainable local growth.
To do so COPAFEU will develop an innovative, enhanced service-learning methodology (E-SL) for the production and dissemination of high quality open-access teaching material on sustainable local growth.
FUNAAB’s research focus is on sustainable entrepreneurship by converting waste to biogas.
At the end of the research, FUNAAB would have a Renewable Energy Centre where students, staff and the general public could have both theory and practical knowledge of biogas production from biodegradable waste.
