The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, International School (FUNIS), penultimate Thursday, held its 7th Speech and Prize-giving Day, as well as its 3rd Valedictory Ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, said prizes were awarded to deserving students, based on merit and sound academic evaluation.
According to him, “I want you to know that the prizes awarded today are based on fairness and sound academic evaluation of the performance of these young students”.
Represented by the Chairman, FUNAAB’s Ceremonials Committee (CERECOM), Professor Babatunde Idowu, the Vice-Chancellor assured parents of the graduating students that the foundation that had been laid in FUNIS is sound, in terms of academic and moral excellence, as he charged them to maintain the high standard.
He enjoined the graduating students to avoid mixing with bad gangs. “Be cautious, not to join the mixed multitudes namely; miscreants, pretenders, cultists, among others, who have other reasons in life besides good names”, he said.
In her lecture titled: “The Nigerian Child as an Agent of Change in National Development”, the Guest Speaker, Mrs. Angela Olurin, maintained that the Nigerian child is the nation’s heritage and future hope.
According to the former Principal General, Yewa/Awori division, “you (children) must be diligent, accept all the training given at home and in school. Be obedient at home, be hard working, cooperative, supportive and be considerate”.
She also charged them to shun bad friends, make their parents happy and be more productive at their places of work.
The Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji (Engr.) Isaq Asamu, lauded the school for instilling discipline and quality academic feats while advising parents to support the school, for the betterment of their children.
The Principal, FUNIS, Mrs Adeola Olumide, stated that the ceremony was a way of recognising excellence and diligence in the students, adding that it will serve as a source of encouragement to them as well as those coming behind.
She restated the commitment of FUNIS in giving the students the best with the support of the University Management.
The Principal implored parents to send their children/wards to FUNIS as they would be better-off for it, noting that a large chunk of the graduating students had secured admission into several federal universities, on merit.
