The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta International School (FUNIS), which is well known for all-round boarding school, has opened its gates for the commencement of Day Schooling. Established in the year 2004 as a full boarding secondary school with qualified and experienced staff, FUNIS came up with the decision to open up for Day Schooling, to accommodate prospective students, whose parents are mostly FUNAAB staff, and to have their children come from home daily. As a co-educational secondary school, which allows a minimum pass of 60% for enrolment after the entrance examination is written, FUNIS aims at ensuring healthy academic competition to bring out the best out of each student while making sure that the students find it easy to settle and fit well into the school environment. The school is committed towards the overall development of students with the aim of ensuring that after their 6-year sojourn, they would have evolved, fully groomed to stand out tall among their peers in academics, commitment to duty, high moral values and rendering service to the nation and mankind. FUNIS is conducive for learning because of its good facilities, quiet and serene environment with well-equipped library, standard science, vocational and computer laboratories and most importantly, proven and tested by the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

Meanwhile, parents have lauded the Management of FUNIS for complying with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) safety instructions and making sure that all necessary facilities were put in place to ensure the safety of students. Speaking on how prepared the school was for resumption, Mrs. Oluwafunmike Bakare, Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Idowu, and Mr. Adewale Ojoye, all appreciated the management for preparing the school and students ahead for resumption, noting that before now, parents had already worked together with the school management to put all necessary measures in place for the safety of the students.

They further noted that the school made sure they provided various hand washing facilities, hand sanitizers, and face masks, among others, to ensure that the students were kept safe; stressing that parents were also mandated to make sure that their children came protected to the school. They stated that the school was well-organised with the social distancing rule being observed in all classes, noting that after the students were driven in the school bus, they were well-monitored and made sure that they washed and sanitised their hands before entering into their classes while parents are to encourage students to continue to adhere to COVID-19 instructions, adding that parents in their own capacities would continue to sensitise and enlighten them.
