The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta International School (FUNIS) wrapped up its annual 3-Day Staff Retreat on September 13, 2024, as part of preparations for the new school year. The event, held under the theme “Switch on to the Change,” was designed to arm staff with the tools and insights needed to tackle the upcoming academic challenges.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Chairman of FUNAAB Schools’ Management Board, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, in his closing remarks, congratulated the school’s new Management Team. He urged staff to foster collaboration, unity, and dedication, stressing the importance of academic excellence as the new session begins.
In her Goodwill Message, the Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu, represented by Mrs. Wuraola Badmus, Student Affairs Officer, encouraged participants to leverage the retreat to “learn, relearn, and unlearn” while incorporating the lessons into their daily routines. She also advocated for continuous career development initiatives.
The Keynote Speaker, Prof. Jonathan Atungwu, the immediate past Dean of the College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), lauded the school’s leadership for organising the retreat and urged staff to embrace change for both personal and professional advancement.
Other highlights included a lecture by Dr. Abdussobur Salaam, Deputy Registrar I (Senate and Admissions), on “Upholding Organisational Culture and Workplace Ethics: A Monumental Catalyst for Development and Increased Productivity.” Mr. Adebayo Ogundimu, Head of the SERVICOM Unit, delivered a session on Attitudinal Change, while Mr. Aderemi Adebayo, Pension Desk Officer, provided insights into Retirement Planning.
Prof. Adeboye Olusesan Fafiolu, Director of the Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE), discussed diversity and inclusion in the school system, while Dr. Temitayo Akinyele, Director at FCE Abeokuta, explored quality assurance practices in secondary education.
Earlier, the Principal, Mr. Olusola Ilori expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, and the University Management for their support, emphasising the need for new teaching strategies and collaboration among staff to foster meaningful educational experiences.
The 3-Day retreat focused on addressing contemporary issues and promoting transformative education that would benefit the students, staff and the school.
