Students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB ) have benefited from the Employability Skills Training for Students of Tertiary Institutions in Ogun State, organised by a German organization, Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The event packaged by GIZ is in partnership with the Ogun State Ministry of Job Creation and Youth Empowerment and facilitated by Rovedana, a staffing solution outfit in Nigeria.
The Training, which runs under the GIZ Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE) is aimed at equipping beneficiaries with basic knowledge and employability skills relevant to evolving needs and to develop new skill sets that allow younger people to undertake a greater variety of work.
The Training which was well attended by undergraduate students of FUNAAB saw them being taken through the “dos and donts” of writing Curriculum Vitae and how to write a good Resume and Cover Letter for new graduates who seek to get an entry level employment.
One of the Facilitators from the Ogun State Ministry of Job Creation and Youth Empowerment who pleaded anonymity stated that it has been discovered that the major problems of youth unemployment in Nigeria is that job seekers don’t know the skills required by an employer, in order to have their desired jobs despite having the certificates.
He noted that this is the main reason the GIZ is determined to help youths better their lives.
He explained that it is for the same reason that the Ogun State Government is partnering with the German agency to invest across the State, to prepare young job seekers on the challenges ahead and to equip them with the necessary skills to surmount the unemployment challenges
He also disclosed that at the end of the Training, trainees are expected to upload their data on the Ogun State job portal designed to take the details of employees for better opportunities.
