Gold House Shines at FUNIS Inter-house Sports

Team Gold House was all smiles as they beat other competitors with 270 points to clinch the first position at the FUNAAB International School (FUNIS), 5th Inter-House Sports Competition, held at its Sport’s pitch.

The keenly contested tournament featured various sporting events which included march past, relay races, soccer, track and field, table tennis, scrabble and chess.

The Blue House came second with 241 points, Green House was third with 176 points while the Red House was fourth with 173 points.

Earlier in his Welcome Remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako thanked the Principal and members of staff of FUNIS for putting up a befitting sports programme for the students. He said that sporting activities should be encouraged at the grass-root level, in order to discover young talents who can make the country proud at National and International levels, promising that the University would do its best to help FUNIS both in sports and academics.

In his Remark, the Chairman, Mr. Fatai Bello, expressed optimism that the event could produce the likes of world-class athletes, like Falilat Ogunkoya and Mary Onyeali in the near future. He charged the Management Board to work towards helping the School to have its own befitting sports arena.

Adding sparks and colour to the day were the invited schools that competed in a relay race that had the Omolaja Sodipo Memorial College, Abeokuta coming first in both the male and female categories, while the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor (Mrs.) Morenike Dipeolu came first in the Principal Officers’ race.

The well attended event also had in attendance, the University’s Registrar, Dr. ‘Bola Adekola; Dean, Student Affairs, Professor Babatunde Idowu; Dean, College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), Professor Muftau Atayese; the Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Dr. (Mrs.) Linda Onwuka; the Deputy Registrar II, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu, as well as parents and well wishers.
