With the high level of discontinuity of infrastructural and developmental projects in the polity by successive administrations that choose new projects rather than completing previous ones, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako has enlightened officials of FUNAAB Student Union (FUNAABSU) of the University, led by Mr. Michael Oloyede on the essence of continuity in governance, noting that the completion of predecessors’ projects was not a sign of weakness.
The Vice-Chancellor disclosed this at the resuscitation ceremony of the abandoned Student Relaxation Centre started by the previous student administration. The Vice-Chancellor, who stated that continuity is key, appreciated the magnanimity of the current President of FUNAABSU for the intellect, vision and courage to re-commence work on the project after sourcing for funds from a donor company; Tonso Elite Enterprise Ltd, whose representative is an alumnus of the University. Prof. Salako noted that the groundstand at the Sports Centre and swimming pool were not previously completed but are now being given attention by the current administration while the Academic Complex and the College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT) Phase II Complex had been completed.
The Vice-Chancellor added that it would have been untidy not to complete the projects inherited from the previous administrations though the incumbent University Management was managing funds while assuring that work would soon start on the groundstand and the swimming pool. He charged all to be acquainted with the Federal Government’s procurement laws that provide that projects funds should be available before starting them, admonishing the students to work within available funds and also shun violence. Prof. Salako used the occasion to appeal to those saddled with leadership responsibilities to imbibe the attitude of continuity in government in the interest of the system.
In another development, the Vice-Chancellor has toured facilities at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta International School (FUNIS). Prof. Salako was accompanied by the Director, Works and Services, Engr. Olawole Akinyele; Ag. Director, Directorate of Environment Management, Dr. Akinpelu Ojo; and Ag. Principal, FUNIS, Mrs. Emily Okpete alongside other staff of FUNAAB and FUNIS, who visited the students’ hostel, kitchen and the proposed Isolation Centre in preparation for reopening.
