The Health Services of the University, accredited by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as a Secondary Health Care Provider, has achieved a milestone in enhancing dental and eye treatment services through collaborations with Access Dental and Scorpio Eye Clinics.
Speaking on the new services, the Acting Director, Health Services, Dr. Oluseyi Anjorin shared details of the partnership stating that FUNAAB has entered into a private-public venture with two established service providers.
The first, Scorpio Eye Clinic in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, led by Dr. Juliet Opaleye, has been providing services to NHIS clients through secondary referrals.
Dr. Anjorin restated the University’s decision to bring these services closer to its community, eliminating the need for patients, students, staff, and children to travel to town for referrals.
Commenting on the the second service provider, Dr. Anjorin said the Access Dental Clinic is located in Ibara Housing Estate. He highlighted the collaborative efforts that led to the establishment of the Dental NHIS Unit at FUNAAB, equipped with a state-of-the-art dental chair with a computerised screen.
This initiative according to him would benefit staff and their children under the NHIS scheme, providing primary and secondary dental services.
Dr. Isaac Ugor, who is overseeing the NHIS eye clinic in FUNAAB, emphasised the convenience of bringing eye care services to the campus for staff and students.
He called for the integration of eye tests into student registrations, facilitating early detection and treatment.
A Dental Therapist in the NHIS Dental section, Mrs. Jumoke Otitoloju said that the complete dental computerised chair equipped with a camera which can be used to check the whole dentition (upper and lower of the mouth) also has a dental light which helps during operation or surgery.
The collaboration with Access Dental and Scorpio Eye Clinics reflect the University’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services to its community.
Dr. Anjorin expressed satisfaction with the mutual benefits of the partnerships, stressing the goal of putting smiles on the faces of patients through accessible and quality healthcare services.
