The Department of Home Science and Management, College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), recently on May 7, 2025, held a colourful and inspiring Fashion Show and Exhibition themed “Heritage in Power: A Fusion of Tradition and Elegance.” The event, held at the NASU Secretariat Building, showcased the creativity and talent of Final-Year students in the Clothing and Textile Programme.

The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Mufutau Ajibola, renowned Mathematician, retired civil servant, and former Ogun State legislator, charged the students to pursue excellence and integrity in all they do. Reflecting on his years of service as a former Executive Board Chairman of SUBEB and Special Adviser to former Governor Olusegun Osoba, he emphasised the importance of discipline, truthfulness, and a resilient mindset. “Time and tide wait for no one,” he reminded the students, urging them to make the most of their youthful energy.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the University Librarian, Prof. Abayomi Owolabi, lauded Hon. Ajibola for his exemplary service and integrity. He encouraged students to turn their creativity into the enterprise. “I don’t believe in unemployment,” he declared. “You should be employers of labour, using your hands and skills to create opportunities.”

According to Prof. Adetoun Amubode, an expert in Clothing and Textiles, “Fashion is more than clothing. It’s a language that speaks of identity, culture, and vision.”

In her welcome address, the Head of Department, Prof. Abolanle Lasode, represented by Dr. Oladipupo Adeboye, noted that the event was not merely a creative display but a celebration of dedication, innovation, and applied learning. “This is where theory meets practice,” she said, “where each stitch and sketch tells a story of growth and excellence.”

The highlight of the event was the launch of the Department’s maiden fashion magazine titled “Fashion Show 2025,” a fashion parade, a captivating display of student-made outfits blending traditional textiles with modern styles. It marked a celebration of culture, innovation, and academic excellence.

The event drew a wide array of guests from the University Community, including the Bursar, Mr. Olukayode Osinuga, who was represented by Mrs. Comfort Dasaolu, as well as staff, students, and fashion enthusiasts, all of whom applauded the students’ ingenuity and the Department’s commitment to practical education.
