The Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), is leading the frontier towards ensuring that data collected during research findings are properly analysed, by organising an intensive training programme for research scientists, lecturers, postgraduate students and final year undergraduate students on data analysis. Addressing participants at the 2nd round of Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SAS/SPSS) training, the Director of IFSERAR, Professor Akin Omotayo, encouraged them to fully utilise the opportunity the training offered them in creating unlimited opportunites. Professor Omotayo disclosed that the training was designed to update and upgrade the skills of undergraduate, postgraduate students and others, who needed to learn how to analyse data.

“Some of them already have the skills but the skills are rusty because as new software are being developed, new ways are coming up. So, we are organising this training both for those who are green completely and those who have the skills but the skills are rusty”, he noted. The Director of IFSERAR added that the success recorded during the first round of the workshop earlier held in August encouraged the Institute to organise the just-concluded second round, urging interested members of the University community to utilise the opportunity of the third round which would be coming up before the end of the year or early 2015. He highlighted the enormous benefits of the training to include turning trainees into consultants, setting up of data analysis outfit, training of would-be data analysts, among others.
