The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Bandele Oyewole addressing Senior Registry Staff at the Workshop

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole has charged Senior Registry Staff of the University to have a clean birth from their hurtful past and start a new life of productive service delivery by evolving  and sustaining an individual daily work plan and enduring road map that will contribute immensely to the development and progress of FUNAAB.

Professor Oyewole gave the charge while addressing Senior Registry Staff at a One-Day Training Workshop titled, “From Effectiveness to Greatness”.

Speaking at the Workshop, Professor Oyewole stated that the prevailing quest of the University to become World-Class will be a mirage if Administrative staff are not internalized.

According to him, “Really, internationalization start with somebody working in and meeting a courteous usher at the entrance of the University saying warmly  “you are welcome”. That is the real beginning of internationalization.  What I am saying today is that internationalization without internalized Administrative Staff is a  waste”, he added.

The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that for Senior Staff to become internalized, they must “put the past in the past and let us start a new life because we are having a system today whereby Senior Staff who are expected to be leaders have no value.  They can not even challenge their own staff for anything”

“Occasionally, I sat down to look at the problem in the Registry.  There are many problems and some of the problems are part of our history.  Today we have in the Registry Senior Staff who are in the cooler and some of those on top have soiled their hands over the years”.

Professor Oyewole stressed, “ we cant continue this way.  We must change.  What is expected of every staff including those in the Registry is that at the beginning of every year you  must have a road map of what you are going to achieve for the year. I mean you challenge yourself on what you are going to achieve”.

“Today we don’t have that challenges again.  People just go to work for going sake. At the end of the year, all they are expecting is three (3) years so as to get promotion and move to the next level”.

He continued, “this particular workshop may look like a small one, it is just the beginning. We call it “Effectiveness to Greatness”.  I just come up with this theme to challenges us because I want you to see yourself as a leader that we are depending on to change this University.  Please let us forget the hurt and rot of the past. Let us have a new beginning”

In his Opening Remarks, the Registrar, Mr. Matthew Ayoola, JP expressed joy that the Registry has produced Registrars of seven tertiary institutions including the Guest Lecturer of the Seminar, Mr. Elvis Abiodun Lawale, who has just completed his term of office as Registrar of Bowen University, Iwo.

The Registrar expressed hope that at the end of the Seminar, Senior Registry Staff will start demonstrating management skills that will inspire their subordinates to join the Management in the onerous project of building a great University.
