… To Advance Collaborative Research in Snail Evolution
By Joy Adeyiga
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) is set to welcome a foremost Japanese Scholar, Prof. Asami Takiro from Shinshu University, Japan, for a strategic academic exchange focused on the evolution of reproductive barriers in snails.
Scheduled for March 10, 2025, Prof. Takiro’s visit would include a Courtesy Visit to the Vice-Chancellor and a familiarisation tour of the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM), the University’s snail research facilities, and other key laboratories relevant to his field of expertise.
The visit aims to foster cutting-edge collaborative research between FUNAAB and Shinshu University, particularly in malacology, the study of molluscs. With Prof. Takiro’s extensive research on evolutionary adaptations in gastropods, this partnership is expected to drive innovative studies in Animal Science, Bioscience, and Veterinary Medicine at FUNAAB.
A major highlight of his visit will be the Campus and Malacology Lecture, slated for Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the Red Chamber, beginning at 12 noon. His lecture, titled “Evolution of Reproductive Barriers in Snails,” is open to Animal Scientists, Bioscientists, Veterinarians, and all COLANIM students.
The engagement is anticipated to ignite intellectual discourse and strengthen international research collaborations. As snail research continues to gain traction in sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation, this partnership promises to advance knowledge, innovation, and scientific breakthroughs in the field.
