Make Walking Part of Your Daily Routine – Acting Director, Sports Centre

The Acting Director of the University’s Sports Centre, Dr. Olabanji Olateju has encouraged members of staff to consciously make walking part of their daily routine to boost physical and mental health.

The fitness expert who disclosed that walking is a good form of exercise, said “we all should exercise. Ordinarily, when you park your car in the office, take a walk round. Don’t always drive your car around the length and breadth of the University”.

He charged members of staff to take advantage of the “Jog for Life” programme organised by the Sports Centre of the University to exercise their bodies and improve their health, adding that the programme holds on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week by 10.00a.m.

According to Dr Olabanji, “this will assist those that are over-weight to control their body weight and enhance healthy living”.

Reeling out some achievements of the Sports Centre in the recent past, the Acting Director said that FUNAAB contingents represented Nigeria in TAIPEI 2017 UNIVERSIADE Games held in Taiwan where FUNAAB presented two contingents out of the ten contingents that represented the country.

In addition, Dr Olabanji disclosed that FUNAAB emerged sixteenth position out of thirty-six Universities that participated in 2018 West African University Games (WAUG) hosted by the University of Port Harcourt, where a total of one gold, two silver and six bronze medals were won by the contingents of the University.

Shedding light on the sporting activities scheduled for this year, the Acting Director said plans are on top gear for the Intercollegiate Sports Championship where the University hopes to discover hidden talents among the students.

He further revealed the Staff Unity Games which could not hold previous years due to strike actions would also take place this year.

According to Dr. Olabanji, the Staff Unity Games provides a forum where the four different Unions in the University come together in sportsmanship, adding that it also fosters unity among members of staff.

The Acting Director commended the University Management for all the achievements and success recorded by the Centre, stating that the Management always supports the Centre whenever they are called upon.
