The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako has assured all members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) in the University that their membership and leadership have nothing to fear, as their union is not under any form of threat. The Vice-Chancellor stated this while declaring open the Universities/Inter-University Centres Trade Group Council Meeting of NASU, held in FUNAAB.
Speaking through the University Registrar, Dr. ‘Bola Adekola, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed delegates of NASU to the meeting and described FUNAAB as home for all. The Vice-Chancellor added that the University Management, under his leadership, was always open to dialogue with all unions in the university. Prof. Salako promised that his administration would not witch-hunt anyone, noting that staff, who were due for promotion for the year 2020 promotion exercise had been promoted. He further disclosed that the current administration was committed to being just, fair and upholding equity. He, however, urged NASU-FUNAAB to always reach out to management when they have matters of interest to discuss.
Earlier, the National President of NASU, Barr. (Dr.) Hassan Makolo urged NASU members to be good ambassadors and keep the spirit of the union going in accordance with the tenets of the union. He described NASU as strong, indivisible and blessed with a formidable Secretariat. The State Chairman of NASU, Ogun State, Comrade Mayokun Olabode felicitated with members and all NASU delegates, who converged in FUNAAB for the epoch-making event. He charged the delegates to seize the opportunity to discuss the way forward and address their common challenges such as earned allowances, Staff School matter, Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS), university funding, and implementation of minimum wage for members, among others.
The Branch Chairman of NASU-FUNAAB, Comrade Samson Edivri appreciated the University Management for the support rendered towards the successful hosting of the event. Comrade Edviri seized the opportunity to appeal to University authorities to look into issues that affect his members and give them due consideration, as he reeled out the union’s achievements under his leadership. The peak of the event was the award of excellence and humanitarian awards to Prof. Olusola Oyewole, immediate past Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB; Prof. Kola Adebayo, former Director, Directorate of Grants Management, FUNAAB; Barr. Benjamin Ogunleye, NASU’s legal representative; and Comrade Isiaq Odunjo, immediate past Chairman of NASU-FUNAAB.
At the occasion, the union commissioned the newly-built NASU-FUNAAB auditorium, named after Comrade Isiaq Odunjo, in recognition of the development recorded under his watch as the branch chairman, between 2012 and 2019. Earlier, during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Registrar, Dr. ‘Bola Adekola, he appreciated all the unions in the University for the industrial peace being enjoyed, which according to him, had promoted progress in FUNAAB. The Vice-Chancellor assured the union executives of his continued support and cooperation by the University Management.
