The Nigerian Association of University Women (NAUW), FUNAAB Chapter has held an empowerment programme tagged, “Be Your Own Boss”, which was designed at teaching interested female students and women, skills such as Bead-making, Cake-baking, Fashion Designing and Decoration.

While addressing the participants, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, represented by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor ‘Yemi Akegbejo-Samsons, thanked NAUW members for bringing young ladies together for the training programme which he observed would be very useful in transforming their lives positively.

The Vice-Chancellor charged the participants to pay due attention to the training by learning well because “Any woman, who goes to her husband’s house without any trade may end up as a failure, both to her husband and children”. He described the participants as being lucky for making out time to attend the programme, rather than engage in frivolities because the acquisition of an extra skill or knowledge would make them independent and respected.

The Chairperson of NAUW, FUNAAB Branch, Dr. Comfort Onifade, said that the aim of the programme was to add value to the lives of the women. Dr. Onifade noted that the society seemed to have abandoned the womenfolk in the scheme of things, thus creating more burden for NAUW. She charged the participants to make use of the opportunity and have something to build on in the future.
