NAUW FUNAAB Canvasses Girls Right, Education, Empowerment, Harnessing Potentials, others for Female Students at Sensitization Seminar

The Nigerian Association of University Women (NAUW), FUNAAB Chapter has stressed the need for female students of the University to know their legal right, empowered, educated and harnessed their potentials for their growth and development, as well as for a better Society.

Speakers including the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde reached the consensus and advocated it accordingly at a Seminar for female students in 100 and 200 Levels, FUNAAB.

The Seminar titled, “Get it Right”, was held at the 1,000 Capacity Lecture Theatre.

Speaking at the Seminar, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde admonished the students to take advantage of the Seminar to better their lots.

The Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Registrar I, Academic (Establishment Matters) who is also a prominent member of the Association, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu, implored all the participants to be attentive enough to absorb all the tips in the Seminar.

The Vice-Chancellor assured them that the tips would add value to them and the society as a whole.

Expressing his appreciation to the Association, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the programme came at the right time as it will ginger them into discovering and maximizing their potentials.

In her Address, the President, NAUW-FUNAAB Chapter, Prof. (Mrs.) Emily Ayo-John disclosed that the Association has over 150 graduates that are active members and it has been saddled with the responsibility of promoting life-long education for girls, quality empowerment and access to education to the highest level, among others.

According to her, “NAUW-FUNAAB is interested in the total well-being and development of girls and women, adding that their basic objective includes; support for indigent students and organising awareness programmes for girls, among others.

Addressing the participants, the Principal Partner, Olajumoke Peters and Co. and the President, Priceless Jewels Foundation, Barr. (Mrs.) Olajumoke Fadairo in her lecture titled; “Legal Rights for Girls and Women”, charged the participants to speak out against violence, molestation and all forms of violations.

Speaking further, she explained that, in order to eradicate abuse, participants needed to be resourceful, skilled, decent and enlightened, in order to prevent or be free from abuse and abusive relationship.

Corroborating Barr. (Mrs.) Fadairo, the Principal Partner Aiyegbusi and Co., Barr. (Mrs.) Taiye Aiyegbusi, advised participants to speak out by not looking down on themselves as well as do something with their lives and focus on their career.

Other lectures were handled by relevant personalities in the University including Dr. Mrs. Francisca Aroyeun who spoke on the topic, “Family Life and Relationship” while “Financial Intelligence” was handled by Mrs. Margret Omisope, as well as Security Issues as it affects FUNAAB Girls which was  handled by Mrs. Jadesola Emmanuel of the Environmental Unit.

NAUW is an Association of Women Graduates affiliated with Graduates Women International (GWI), and its Headquarter is in Geneva, Switzerland.
