The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command has honoured and decorated FUNAAB Vice Chancellor, Professor Olusola Babatunde Kehinde as Ambassador of War Against Drug Abuse (WADA).
The Vice-Chancellor was decorated by the Ogun State Commandant of the Agency, Mrs. C.N Ibiba Odili when the body paid a courtesy visit to the former.
Speaking during the visit, the Commandant described the issue of drug abuse among teenagers as a time bomb that is waiting to explode if stakeholders failed, to as a matter of urgency, take corrective measures towards addressing the menace in our society.
She stressed the need for all hands to be on deck and to quickly nip the menace in the bud, noting with dismay the adverse transformation of erring teenagers from common hard drug users to habitual addicts of many harder, imported and chemically produced drugs that are dangerous to their health and the wellbeing of human being, at large.
The State Commandant of NDLEA canvassed the need for a common forum and for a way NDLEA will sensitize students, parents, the University Community and the Public as a whole, on dangers associated with the use of hard drugs.
Welcoming the Agency, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Babatunde Kehinde in his response stated that FUNAAB over the years has carved a niche for being at the vanguard of advocacy against drug addiction, especially among FUNAAB students, the youths and the Public in general.
Professor Kehinde, who as usual never minced words sounded confident and blunt telling the State Commandant of NDLEA that FUNAAB has zero tolerance for drug abuse and other social vices.
He stressed the need to strengthen the existing collaboration with NDLEA, saying it will go a long way in checking the menace of drug abuse in our society.
Appreciating the Ambassadorial honour bestowed on him by the Agency, Professor Kehinde reiterated his campaign against drug abuse.
In his Remark, the Chief Intelligence Officer of the University, Mr. Peter Bolarinwa restated the commitment of the security arm of the University under the purview of Management to reinforcing war against drug abuse among the students like never before over the years, saying that different Agencies have been invited during successive orientation programmes, organised for the students to enlighten them about dangers inherent in drug abuse.
He urged NDLEA to strengthen the campaign against drug abuse to every community, noting that most of the youths that are involved in drug abuse are living off campus.
