In line with the current administration’s commitment to the welfare of Staff and Students in the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has facilitated the donation of an ambulance to the University Health Centre, courtesy of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The Vice-Chancellor thanked the University NHIS Health Board for the donation stressing that previously the Health Centre had only two ambulances which were not enough for the population of the community, hence the need for a new one.
According to him, in time past there have been cases that warranted having to move students speedily to other Medical Centres for additional health care, adding that the donation of the new ambulance will make it possible and fast.
Professor Salako who was flanked at the presentation by other Principal Officers urged the Director, Health Centre, Dr. Abiodun Amusan to ensure that the facility is used in accordance with rules of engagement.
Responding, the Director, FUNAAB Health Centre, Dr. Amusan appreciated the University Management for the donation while noting that the current administration has always made matters relating to health in the University one of its priorities.
Highlighting some of the achievements recorded by the Health service under the current administration, the Director said a maternity centre is currently being constructed which will make child delivery easier and more accessible not to only the University community but to the villages and towns around the University.
Dr. Amusan added that the proposed X-ray building is another laudable effort of Professor Salako-led administration.
According to Dr. Amusan, with the new ambulance, the University Health Centre will be able to provide ambulance services to members of staff who are willing to use the ambulance.
He reiterated that the other two ambulances will be further refurbished with the help of the Health Management Organization (HMO), attached to the University.
The Director listed the gadgets in the ambulance to include oxygen cylinder which will sustain a gasping patient, the mouth piece through which the oxygen will pass, cupboard, first aid kits, water container and stretcher that will make the patient immobile during movement.
Present at the event was Professor Morenike Dipeolu Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Lateef Sanni, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Dr. Fehintola Onifade, the University Librarian and other members of staff.
