The Registrar, Dr. Bola Adekola has warned members of staff that praying in offices during working hours is unethical and unacceptable to the University Culture.

Dr. Adekola gave the warning as he declared that every category and cadre of staff in the University culture and system is relevant and germane to realizing set objectives and mandates.

The Registrar stated this while presenting a Paper titled, “Sustaining University Culture and Ethics: Rescuing The Nigerian University System” at a Retreat for Non-Teaching Staff, held at Prof. Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building.

Dr. Adekola whose mastery of the theme elicited intermittent applause and standing ovation from hundreds of participants noted with dismay that some staff have been abusing and wasting productive office hours on personal prayers in their offices at the expense of service delivery.

He noted that instead of such staff to wake up early to observe their Christian and Islamic prayers at home, they will rush to their offices and spend the early productive hours praying and leaving their official responsibilities unattended to.

The Registrar cautioned that the habit of the habitual prayer warriors during office hours is alien to University’s culture and will no longer be tolerated in the University, warning members of staff who indulged in the act to as a matter of urgency desist or face the consequence.

                Speaking further on the theme of his Presentation, Dr. Adekola pointed out that it is erroneous for any category and cadre of staff to think they are more important or relevant than others, describing the impression and conviction as baseless in the University’s culture.

                According to him “Everybody is relevant and germane to realizing University’s mandates.  It doesn’t matter whether you are academic or non-teaching staff, senior or junior staff.  Everybody is important in the system and our Vice-Chancellor has been reiterating this fact”.

                The Registrar disabused the minds of some Non-teaching staff who believe that reference to them as support staff is derogatory and demeaning, explaining that the appellation does not mean that they are being relegated and as such should not look down on themselves.

                Rather, he stressed that “You should be proud when you are being referred to as supportive staff because no organization can function effectively without support staff”.

                Dr. Adekola who is the pioneer Registrar of Fountain University, Osogbo (2007-2012)  University and currently the Secretary General, Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU) explained the concept of University, Academic and Campus culture, while charging members of staff to get themselves acquainted with the rules and regulations, in order to enhance service delivery.
