The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako has cautioned erring members of staff to desist from heinous acts that are capable of destroying the system, bearing in mind that the misconducts if not shunned will affect them and their future generations.
Speaking at the Workshop/Retreat organized for all categories and cadres of Non-Teaching Staff by his Management, Prof. Salako noted with dismay the unpatriotic disposition of some staff to destabilize the system and destroy the University through unethical vices like lack of maintenance culture, peddling of mischievous information and flagrant violation of rules and regulations of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor condemned the habit of abandoning and misusing University’s facilities by some members of staff, stating that majority are not conscious of what have been provided by the University to enhance service delivery.
According to him, “many of our equipments and facilities are being abandoned and misused by staff because some do not care about their maintenance. We must realize that these facilities have been provided for a reason which is why it is important for all to cultivate the habit of maintenance culture and appreciate what we have so that those coming behind will also have something to use”.
“We should stop being destructive and realize that if we destroy the system now, it will affect our future generations. We just have to build a good legacy that the young
ones can look up to because foundation matters. If we maintain it well, we will enjoy it and we should remember that we are only here for a while, if the system is destroyed, the coming generation will be affected”, he said.
The Vice Chancellor however, stated that Management will continue to provide necessary facilities for the University, stating that it is their responsibility to ensure that members of staff are armed with necessary equipment that will hasten their job delivery.
Prof. Salako revealed that the Workshop is the third the University will be having this year, adding that the Training is aimed at enhancing service delivery without going against the University’s rules and regulations.
He stressed the need for things to be done right in the University, and challenged members of staff to dignify themselves by obeying the University’s rules and regulation so as to avoid sanction..
According to him, “we need to train ourselves, know where we are and the laws guiding the Institution because there are many things we do wrong and we think they are right”.
“The fact that some things are done in a particular way does not stop people from reading and understanding the University’s rules and regulations. We need to stop abusing the University’s directives in order to avoid conflict in the System”, he added.
Prof. Salako further admonished staff to avoid placing Unionism above their official and primary assignments saying that they are employees of the University first before becoming members of any union.
He warned them against using Unionism as a tool to cause rancor and acrimony, adding that they must avoid trespassing and disobeying the University’s laid down laws.
The Vice Chancellor also urged members of staff to learn to separate extra curricular activities from official activities, warning them to desist from carrying rumours or publishing fake stories about the University on the Internet.
He disclosed that some group of people are deliberately spreading false information to destabilize the system, urging them to have respect for the University they are representing.
The Vice Chancellor, who described everyone as a stakeholder in the University’s System, reiterated the commitment of Management to protecting the interest of every member of staff, noting that everybody is important in the University.
He appreciated the organizers of the Workshop for their dedication and participants for their attentiveness charging them to never stop learning, saying that any knowledge acquired now is their property forever.
