A former staff of the University, Mr. Charles Nwachukwu, has been laid to rest in his home town, Umuagbara Uvuru Aboh Mbaise Local Government of Imo State. As part of burial programmes, an evening of service of songs was held for him by the Deeper Christian Life Ministry in his residence. At the occasion, the importance of doing the will of God was stressed, which involves reconciling with God and avoiding sin. Various remarks were also given on the sterling qualities of the deceased by his family, friends, and church members.
Mr. Nwachukwu, who worked in the Directorate of Works and Services, joined the University as Senior Driver II, rose through the ranks to the position of Senior Transport Supervisor and retired from FUNAAB in 2017. While in service Mr. Nwachukwu served two Vice- Chancellors, the Pioneer Vice–Chancellor, Prof. ‘Nimbe Adedipe and Prof. J.A. Okojie diligently. The pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. ‘Nimbe Adedipe in a letter of commendation issued him described him as a man of diligence, honesty, integrity and remarkable sense of responsibility. Late Mr. Nwachukwu is survived by wife, Mrs. Victoria Nwachukwu, children and grandchildren.
