… As the College Holds its 10th Induction Ceremony

The Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA) has donated a solar-powered borehole to the College of Engineering (COLENG) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). The donation was announced on January 9, 2025, during the 10th Induction Ceremony of the College’s 2023/2024 Session Graduates, themed “Succeeding in the Engineering World and Ultimately Living the Engineering Dream.”

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of OORBDA, Engr. Adedeji Ashiru, represented by the Special Adviser (Technical), Engr. Olumide Kumolu congratulated the Inductees and the University Management. He commended the Inductees for their perseverance and hard work, which enabled them to overcome challenges during their studies. Engr. Ashiru encouraged the new Engineers to embrace innovation and determination in tackling life’s challenges, urging them to make meaningful contributions to society.

In her remarks, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Aina Oguntala, represented by a former Chairman of the NSE, Benin Branch, Engr. Kayode Adeniji, the President emphasised that not all Engineers were recognised professionals, advising the newly inducted Engineers to uphold the standards of the NSE, protect its image, and work towards the progress of society.

The Dean, COLENG, Prof. Olawale Dairo, in his Welcome Address, expressed gratitude to the University Management for their consistent support of the College. He also appreciated the NSE National and Abeokuta Branch for their role in ensuring the success of the Induction Ceremony. Prof. Dairo commended the parents and guardians of the Inductees for their unwavering support and urged the graduates to remain good ambassadors of FUNAAB and their families.

Guest speakers at the event, including Engr. (Mallam) Ibrahim Lawal, represented by Engr. Johnson Akpan, and Engr. Ayodeji Aderibigbe challenged the Inductees to uphold the ethics of the engineering profession, which were rooted in integrity and good character. They both emphasised the importance of resilience, entrepreneurship, and continuous learning, encouraging the graduates to network with accomplished professionals and remain innovative in their careers.

Delivering the Valedictory Speech, the President of the Nigerian Universities Engineering Students’ Association (NUESA) for the 2023/2024 Academic Session, Mr. Ogunremi Isaac, expressed gratitude to the University Management and staff of COLENG for their dedication. He thanked God for the safety of his cohort and urged his colleagues to remain focused and strive for excellence.

The ceremony culminated in the oath-taking, presentation of NSE tokens, awards, and cash prizes to outstanding students, including the Best and Overall Best-Graduating students of the College.
