The Postgraduate Student Association (PGSA) of the University has marked its Week for this year, while the FUNAAB Chapter of the Idea Processing Nigeria (IPNG) has also celebrated its third anniversary with a charge to students to always strive for excellence.

Speaking at the PGSA Week, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, tasked the postgraduate students to always ensure that the quality of researches carried out by them was standard, as various processes had been introduced to make this possible in the University through writing of abstracts, production of quality soft-bounded dissertations and theses for external assessment.

Professor Oyewole, who was represented by the Dean, Postgraduate School, Professor Ololade Enikuomehin, used the occasion to formally introduce the new Deputy Dean of the PG School, Dr. Adebayo Shittu, while assuring the Association of the continued support of Management.

Similarly, as part of activities for the PGSA Week, the Deans of the various Colleges have commissioned the notice boards donated by the Association. The President of PGSA, Mr. Adesina Adesoji, outlined the achievements so far made by the Association to include: increase in Internet quota tostudents from 35 to 70, securing of approval deadlines for the payment of school fees, securing of extension deadline for the submission of theses and dissertations, as well as the commissioning of donated notice boards to Colleges.

Mr. Adesoji commended the University Management for the support given to the Association and for creating the enabling environment for maintaining a cordial relationship between the students and the lecturers. The Week also featured conferment of awards, football match between postgraduate and undergraduate students, as well as indoor games such as Scrabble, Table-tennis and Chess.

In a related development, members of the FUNAAB Chapter of Idea Processing Nigeria (IPNG) have celebrated the third year anniversary of the body. Speaking at the occasion, Professor Olufemi Onifade, a key adviser to IPNG and the former Director, Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS), expressed his satisfaction with the objectives of the students’ body, which they sought to proffer workable and sustainable solutions to societal problems, such as unemployment and poor leadership. He charged members to always strive for academic excellence, humility, perseverance, focus, imbibe the culture of team work and engage in networking, as these qualities would help them to achieve the cardinal goals of the body and become better persons in life.

Dr. Oluseyi Ojekunle of the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM), lauded IPNG for doing a good job, while stressing the need to appreciate the high influence of peer groups in the life of young people. “The friends we keep affect how far we would achieve our goals and objectives in life” he said. Dr. Ojekunle added that students who are involved in the various extra-curricular activities are expected to maintain a high level of concentration in their academic pursuits, which he said remained their primary assignment in the University.

During a visit to the FUNAAB Zoological Gardens, the students were exposed to the practical training session, where they saw the processes involved in the generation of Biogas for various uses. Dr. Moses Oyatogun, the Director of the Zoological Gardens, emphasised the need for sustainable and environmentally-friendly means of generating power, rather than depending solely on fuel extracted from crude oil. He stated that Biogas was far safer and cost effective to use. “The world is in a cycle. Therefore, nothing is a waste. The proper management of our environment is the solution to the ecological challenges”, he disclosed.
The Co-ordinator Overall (CO) of IPNG, Mr. Emmanuel Dada-Lanre, on his part, admonished youths to work hard in order to secure a bright future for themselves. “With this newly-born development, students can be re-inforced against the menace of unemployment, our environment would be safer and the economy of nations would blossom if well harnessed. I term this as the onset of a better future”, he added.
