Physics Dept. Alumni Extend Scholarships, Food Support to Students

In a remarkable gesture of generosity, the Physics Alumni Association of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has extended financial and material assistance to deserving students of the Department of Physics.

The presentation ceremony, held at the Department of Physics, featured the distribution of scholarships, food items, and laboratory apparatus to outstanding indigent students. The initiative was spearheaded by the Chairman of the FUNAAB Physics Alumni Association, Dr. Kolawole Ojo, who made the presentation on behalf of the group.

In his remarks, Dr. Ojo described the initiative as a reflection of the Association’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and supporting the next generation of Physicists. He congratulated the beneficiaries for their resilience and determination, urging them to remain steadfast in their pursuit of knowledge and to, in future, pay it forward by supporting others.

He further expressed deep appreciation to members of the alumni body, with special acknowledgment to Prof. Gboyega Adebayo, the Dean, Postgraduate School, for his outstanding commitment to the success of the project.

As part of the support, the alumni donated laboratory apparatus valued at ₦1.3M to the Department to boost practical learning. Each of the ten beneficiaries also received a ₦40,000 cash award and food items, including raw rice and beans, as welfare assistance.

Delivering goodwill messages, the Dean, Postgraduate School, who is also a member of the Physics Alumni, including the Dean, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), Prof. Victor Makinde and the Head of Department of Physics, Prof. Itunu Okeyode appreciated the Association for its laudable initiative. They described the gesture as a strong demonstration of alumni solidarity and a motivation for students to strive for excellence.

Meanwhile, the event was not only a celebration of academic support but also a reaffirmation of the enduring bond between the alumni and their alma mater, reflecting FUNAAB’s culture of giving back and inspiring future leaders in science and innovation.
