The Technical Committee of the Pre-NUGA competition billed to hold in the University has approved venues for the various events.

The Committee, headed by Dr. Abdulfatai Ademola Adiatu of the Lagos State University, LASU, had embarked on a technical inspection of the various facilities available for the games, after which it endorsed the University’s pitch for football events.

Other events approved, to be staged at the Sports Centre of the University include; Handball, Basketball, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis and Table Tennis.

The Committee, however, withheld the approval of the University’s Squash Court, pending when due rehabilitation would be effected on the floor of the Court.

The Alake Sport’s Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta, will host events such as Judo, Taekwondo and Badminton, while Track and Field events will take place at the MKO Stadium, Kuto and Swimming at the pool of Adesba International Hotel, Ibara, Abeokuta.

Dr. Adiatu expressed the optimism that UNAAB would be able to host a successful game, given its current state of facilities, but advised that rehabilitation would still be required on some of them, to guarantee a good hosting.

Registration and accreditation of participating institutions, with their athletes will equally take place in the University, even as representatives of participating institutions unanimously agreed to enlist the assistance of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to forestall incidences of cheating and doping.

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and University’s Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Chryss Onwuka, assured that all approved facilities for the games would be improved upon, as no efforts would be spared by the Management at ensuring “a super game from the zone”.

The competition is scheduled to hold between 6th and 9th February, 2011.
