… As FUNAAB Holds Agri-Machinery Road Show

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), HRM, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, has underscored the need to modernise farming practices in Nigeria to address the country’s growing food demands.

Speaking at the Agri-Machinery Road Show and Research Product Exhibition, held today, January 23, 2025, as part of the 32nd Convocation Ceremony activities, the Pro-Chancellor stressed that reliance on outdated, manual farming methods would not suffice to ensure food security. He called for increased adoption of innovative and mechanised agricultural practices to enhance productivity and sustain the nation’s food supply.

Oba Olabomi who announced that the Exhibition would now become an annual three-day event at FUNAAB, stated that there would be ample period to showcase cutting-edge advancements in agricultural technology and research. He, therefore, commended FUNAAB researchers for their impactful contributions and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in agricultural innovation.

Earlier in his Opening Remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde appreciated the University community for their commitment to the University’s Tripodal Mandate of Teaching, Research, and Community Services. He reiterated FUNAAB’s dedication to equipping students with practical skills and fostering partnerships with global stakeholders, including Germany, the Netherlands, and China, to advance agricultural research and innovation.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, during the introductory remarks, stressed the importance of collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges.

The event also featured Goodwill Messages from notable stakeholders, including representatives from Beulah Resources and Agribusiness, Obasanjo Farms Nigeria Ltd., and C. Woermann Ltd., who lauded FUNAAB’s initiatives and its role in promoting food security.

The highlight of the occasion was the exhibition of various agricultural tools, products, and groundbreaking research outputs, underscoring FUNAAB’s contributions to agricultural development in Nigeria.

The Agri-Machinery Road Show and Research Product Exhibition served as a testament to FUNAAB’s position as a leader in agricultural innovation and its unwavering commitment to driving sustainable development in the sector.
