Prof. Okuneye Goes Home Amid Tears, Tributes

It was a mixed feeling of mourning, thanksgiving and encomiums at the commendation service held in honour of the late Prof. Peter Okuneye by the University as a mark of respect for the late Don for his selfless service to FUNAAB and humanity at large. Ministering at the programme, the University Chaplain, Prof. Christian Ikeobi described Prof. Okuneye as blessed because he died in the Lord. He charged everybody to examine their purpose in life and how such would yield them eternity. According to the chaplain, the deceased had lived a life that impacted others, which he described as an endearing legacy. The commendation service witnessed the outpouring of tributes on Prof. Okuneye from various quarters.

Speaking on behalf of the University Management, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Clement Adeofun, stated that there is time for everything on earth. The Vice-Chancellor said that the University is greatly saddened to have lost Prof. Okuneye to the cold hands of death but that solace is taken on the fact that he lived a fulfilled life, exited the world at his destined time, and he had numerous accomplishments during his lifetime. Speaking on behalf of the Executive Governor, Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun through Zoom at the service, the Deputy Governor, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, charged the University community and deceased immediate family to be strong and take comfort in the fact that Prof. Okuneye left behind many contributions to human development in Nigeria and across the globe.

Described as the patriarch of the College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), Prof. Okuneye was until his death, a Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development of FUNAAB. At the commendation service were Principal Officers of the University; Apostle Lawrence and Pastor Fola Achudume; and Prof. Chinedum Babalola, Vice-Chancellor, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, among other friends, family members and loved ones that were connected to Zoom for the service.
