The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Professor Felix Salako, would deliver the 48th Inaugural Lecture of the University on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. The lecture, which is titled “For Soil to Oil the Nation: Advancing the Frontiers of Conservation Agriculture in Nigeria”, takes place at the FUNAAB Ceremonial Building, beginning at 2pm.
A Professor of Soil Physics in the College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), Professor Salako’s research interest covers the use of isotopes in soil and water characterization and measurement of unsaturated water flow of tropical soils with tension infiltrometer. The lecture is expected to x-ray the need for an alternative means of generating revenue, considering the present dwindling price in oil and its attendant effect on the nation’s economy. Professor Salako said the lecture would also, from the point of view of a Soil Scientists, divulge the importance of soil as a natural resource that must be conserved both for sustainable production of crops and improved quality of the environment under different land uses, while fulfilling the divine mandate of God.
Professor Salako, who has supervised over 40 undergraduate projects and more than 20 postgraduate projects, dissertations and theses has won Grants from the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and Training and Research in Italian Laboratories (TRIL) of the Abdus Salaam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Italy. He was a Regular Associate of ICTP between 2005 and 2009, where he was also a Resource Person in 2003 for the year’s Edition of College on Soil Physics. He is a member of several Professional societies. He is also a Reviewer for many International and Nigeria-based Journals. He has over seventy-five 75 publications, 56 of which are in reputable International Journal Articles, eight of which are published as chapters in books. Professor Salako is a community leader and holds the chieftaincy titles of Asoludero of Iwoye Ketu and Bobatolu of Isaga-Orile, Ogun State as a mark of his contributions to rural community development.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole would be the Chairman and Chief Host at the occasion.
