Registrars Are Key Managers in University Administration -Gov. Abiodun

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described Registrars as “key managers” in University Administration charging them to live up to expectations by acquainting themselves with current administrative techniques that are in line with best global practices for the development of the education sector.

The Governor made this disclosure at the Opening Ceremony of the 16th Annual Retreat and 70th Business Meeting of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU) hosted by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) with the theme, “Professionalism, Work Ethics and Unionism in Nigerian Universities”.

According to him, “Administrators should begin to look inwards on how our Universities can focus more on research works while the different arms of policy makers and all stakeholders should periodically and critically assess our education system for the goals, yearnings, needs and aspirations of the society”.

The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele also reiterated his Administration’s commitment to the development of the education sector for the progress of the State, especially in the areas of Human Capital Development and reorientation of the people.

            He stressed that the role of education in any human and national development efforts cannot be overemphasized.

            According to him, no nation can rise above the quality of its education system and this means that the greatness of every society hinges on the nature and quality of its educational system.

            He appealed to Management to continue to ensure a robust relationship between the town and gown so as to foster peaceful coexistence and meaningful development in the society.

            Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako welcomed all the visiting Registrars to the University, expressing optimism that “due to the composition of ARNU, comprising Registrars of Federal, State and Private Universities in Nigeria, I am sure that the deliberations and outcome of the Retreat and Business meeting would be successful, educative, informative and far-reaching in reshaping the work ethics across Nigerian Universities”.

            Lectures addressing the theme of the Retreat were delivered by Prof. Saburi Adesanya, former Vice-Chancellor at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State and Dr. (Mrs.) Folasade Ipaye, former Registrar, University of Lagos, Akoka.

            The event was capped with a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland and also to the FUNAAB Zoological Garden.
