The 2018/2019 Academic Session Matriculating Students have been charged to always bear in mind, their primary purpose of being in the University inspite of any other side attractions that might come their way.

This advice was given by a retired University Don and a one time Director of the Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), Professor Olusegun Osinowo, while delivering this year’s Commencement Lecture titled, “Sailing to Success”, to the Matriculating students.

According to Professor Osinowo, aside other arrays of attractions that abound in the University environment, students should bear in mind, that their main aim in the University is “to acquire high level knowledge and skills that would equip them (the students) for a successful intellectual and professional life”.

Professor Osinowo informed the students that, “at the end of your studies here, you are expected to be found worthy in character and learning”. Based on this, he cautioned them against any unnecessary distractions.

Counselling the matriculants against acts of “sexual immorality”, “cultism”, “drug abuse”, “financial crime”, and “examination malpractices”, Professor Osinowo noted that any student caught in such act will come under the hammer of the Student Disciplinary Committee, which in most cases leads to rustication or expulsion.

“Start your studies well, be persistent and finish strong. Your four to six years sojourn on this campus should be a glorious one, worthy of life long memories, making you a positive change-agent and high-valued citizen of Nigeria and the world at large”, he charged.

Professor Osinowo inspired the students by citing examples of former FUNAAB students who are making waves in their various areas of callings and equally adding value to the name of the University in particular and Nigeria in general.
